A dry composting toilet was built from recycled materials including a blue barrel and wood from broken up pallets. Linseed oil and turps were used to protect the wooden seat. The barrel is sturdy enough to hold the structure and when full will be stored for 6-12 months to compost.

Update August 2019

This system has proven to work very well. The seat is comfortable, the contents smell like the forest floor, the view is spectacular and the system is very contained. Because of the speed of decomposition the loo has only filled 4 times in the two years it's been in use.

At this stage we are looking into obtaining a more sophisticated system which will cater for a larger number of people.
